Ras Mohamed National Park, located at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, is a true treasure of Egypt and a gem of the Red Sea. Established in 1983, it is the country’s first national park, created to protect rare coral reefs and the region’s remarkable biodiversity. The park covers over 480 km², including marine waters, desert areas, lagoons, salt lakes, and rocky plateaus. From tiny coral polyps to large sea turtles and even hammerhead sharks, Ras Mohamed is a living natural wonder.

One of the park’s most fascinating natural phenomena is the meeting of the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez, where waters differ in temperature, density, and color. These currents feed the coral reefs and bring an abundance of plankton — the basis of life for many marine creatures. The underwater world is among the most picturesque on the planet, with visibility reaching 30 meters, and sunlight creating golden patterns on the sea floor.

Among the corals, you can see parrotfish, butterflyfish, moray eels, rays, turtles, and sometimes dolphins. Giant barracudas appear occasionally, and during the summer, harmless whale sharks can be seen. Some corals are over 2,000 years old, earning Ras Mohamed the nickname “underwater museum.” Coral growth is slow — only 1 cm per year — making every centimeter a page of the planet’s history.

The park also blends two contrasting worlds: the hot desert and the vibrant sea. In the mornings, you may spot fennec foxes running across the sand or hawks and pelicans flying overhead. In spring, wildflowers bloom, creating a mirage-like scene against golden cliffs.

Local legends say Ras Mohamed is a place of power. According to tradition, the Prophet Muhammad blessed the area, saying that here “land and sea will speak to God.” Nature here seems to sing — the wind, waves, birds, and rustling leaves create a harmony that is hard to describe.

Ras Mohamed is considered one of the best places on Earth for snorkeling and diving. Many BBC and National Geographic documentaries were filmed here to showcase its pristine underwater beauty. Experienced divers even find traces of ancient shipwrecks in the reefs.

Early in the morning, around 8:00 AM (depending on the location of your hotel), a comfortable air-conditioned bus will pick you up to begin an exciting journey to Ras Mohammed National Park.

Highlights of the Tour:

“Gates of Allah”
A majestic stone arch at the park entrance symbolizes the boundary between desert and sea, earthly and spiritual. Local guides explain that the arch is shaped like the Arabic inscription for “Allah” and serves as a “portal” to the magical world of Ras Mohamed. Visitors often take photos here — legend says passing through with good thoughts brings wishes to life.

Mangrove Forests
Unexpected desert miracle! Mangroves grow directly in salty water, filtering salt with their roots. This is the only place on the Sinai Peninsula to see such forests, which provide shelter for many birds and marine creatures.

Lake of Wishes
A beautiful blue lake in the middle of the desert, connected to the sea by an underground channel. Legend says that throwing a stone over your left shoulder while making a wish will make it come true. Many travelers return years later to share that their wishes came true.

Earthquake Canyon
A natural canyon formed by an ancient earthquake. The crack descends deep into the earth, and you can see water shining at the bottom, connecting with the sea. Guides say this is where you can feel the “breath of the Earth.”

Snorkeling
The tour’s highlight is snorkeling in Ras Mohamed. Explore underwater gardens of coral, colorful fish, starfish, and sometimes dolphins. The water is crystal clear, and even beginners feel confident under the careful supervision of guides.
