Diving at Ras Mohammed in Sharm El Sheikh
Tour description
Located at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, Ras Mohammed National Park is a true treasure of Egypt and a Red Sea gem. Established in 1983 as the country’s first national park, it preserves rare coral reefs and rich biodiversity. Covering over 480 km², the park includes marine areas, desert landscapes, lagoons, salt lakes, and rocky plateaus. Here, life flourishes from tiny coral polyps to giant sea turtles and hammerhead sharks.
A spectacular phenomenon occurs where the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Aqaba meet. The waters differ in temperature, density, and color, creating a mesmerizing natural spectacle. These currents nourish the reefs and bring plankton, supporting a vast array of marine life. With visibility up to 30 meters, sunlight forms golden patterns on the seabed, turning diving into a magical experience.
The marine life at Ras Mohammed is vibrant: parrotfish, butterflyfish, moray eels, stingrays, sea turtles, and dolphins are commonly seen. Giant barracudas and whale sharks may appear seasonally. Some corals are over 2,000 years old, earning the park the title of an “underwater museum.”
On land, the park combines desert and sea. In the mornings, you may spot fennec foxes, while hawks and pelicans soar above. In spring, wildflowers bloom briefly, creating a mirage-like spectacle against golden cliffs.
Ras Mohammed is considered a place of power. Local legend says Prophet Muhammad blessed the area, declaring that “the land and sea will speak with God.” Nature here seems to sing—wind, waves, bird calls, and rustling foliage create a harmony that’s unforgettable.
It’s no wonder that Ras Mohammed is one of the best diving and snorkeling locations on Earth, featured in BBC and National Geographic documentaries. Even traces of ancient shipwrecks have been found here.
