Mount Sinai Tour – Climb to Moses Mountain
Tour description
The night on Sinai doesn’t begin with darkness — it begins with silence. A silence that exists only in places where time has no power. Before you stands a mountain that has seen more than all of human history — Mount Sinai.
In the Bible, it is called the Mountain of God, or Mount Moses, because it is believed that here the Prophet Moses received the Ten Commandments from God — the words that became the foundation of morality for three great religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. This mountain is not just stone — it is a meeting point of three faiths, three worlds, three eras.
It is said that here God appeared to Moses in a burning bush that did not consume itself, commanding him to lead the people of Israel out of Egyptian slavery. From this land began the path of freedom, faith, and divine law.In the Qur’an, the mountain is called Jabal Musa — “the Mountain of Moses.” The Prophet Musa (Moses) is one of the most important prophets in Islam, which is why this site is visited by pilgrims — Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike. They all come in different ways, but they all leave with the same feeling: as if they’ve touched something eternal.
The path to the top is ancient — walked for centuries. Along the trail are stone steps carved by monks from the Monastery of Saint Catherine. This monastery is one of the oldest active Christian monasteries in the world, founded in the 6th century by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian.
At its base, it holds one of the world’s oldest libraries — ancient manuscripts, icons, and scrolls in Greek, Syriac, Arabic, and Coptic. Here also grows the descendant of the Burning Bush, in which, according to legend, God first spoke to Moses. At night, under the stars, you walk along the narrow path trodden by thousands before you — pilgrims, monks, wanderers. The air is crisp and dry, the stars hang low like lamps, and all around you there is only stone and the breath of the wind.
You climb not for religion alone, but for the feeling — that this is where it all began. And when you reach the summit, in the darkness you see an old chapel built on the spot where, as legend says, Moses spoke with God. Then the sun rises — slowly, majestically — painting the desert gold.
And somewhere inside, everything becomes quiet. Because you are standing where man once heard Heaven. After descending, you will visit Saint Catherine’s Monastery. Its walls are thick and ancient, as if carved from time itself. The monks live by the same rules as they did fifteen centuries ago. They rarely open the gates, but if you are lucky, you may see their relics, hear prayers in ancient Greek, and smell incense soaked into the stones.
Leaving Sinai, you realize: this is not just a mountain.
It is a place where man met God — where history ceased to be the past and became something alive.
And now that story lives in you.

Climbing Mount Moses
The ascent begins at night so that you can greet the magnificent sunrise at the summit.
In the stillness of the desert, you’ll start your journey under the starry sky, guided by moonlight and lanterns. The climb takes 2–3 hours, depending on your fitness level. You can choose between two routes:
- The Stone Stairway (around 3,750 steps), starting from the monastery;
- Or a gentler path, winding through rocks and sandy slopes.
This night ascent is more than a physical challenge — it’s a spiritual journey to inner peace.
The sunrise from the summit bathes the Sinai desert in golden light — a moment of revelation that remains in your heart forever. At the Summit
At the top, you’ll find a small chapel and stones believed to have been used by Moses to carve the tablets of the Commandments.
Here, you can pray, meditate, or simply gaze silently over the endless mountains and desert glowing in the morning light.Saint Catherine’s Monastery
